 OVERVIEW

Dr. Ward is a licensed psychologist in both Oregon and Utah who is committed to enhancing the emotional well being of her clients and their families. She provides comprehensive mental health evaluations and treatment for a wide range of psychological issues for children and adolescents, with specializations in diagnosing and treating emotional and behavioral concerns of young children as well as symptoms of trauma in children and adolescents of all ages. Her expertise also extends to parent consultations, as she supports and guides parents in their efforts to better understand the needs of their children, and works with them to promote healthier functioning across multiple domains. She understands the tremendous stress and anxiety oftentimes created from seeking professional help and she approaches each family with compassion and openness to their unique struggles and path of healing.

Dr. Ward graduated from the University of Utah with a doctorate in counseling psychology and special proficiencies in child and adolescent psychology and gender psychology.  She is trained in evidenced-based cognitive behavioral therapies and relationship-based interventions, drawing from humanistic psychology, cognitive-behavioral approaches and attachment theory. In culmination of her extensive doctoral coursework, practicum experience and research, Dr. Ward completed her predoctoral internship in the trauma department of Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her postdoctoral residency and subsequent professional tenure were completed at The Children’s Center, a nonprofit community mental health center in Salt Lake City that specializes in treating infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children. She is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) as both a clinician and a trainer and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She completed select training in Stanley Greenspan’s Developmental-Individual Differences, Relationship-Based Approach (DIR-Model) for children with pervasive development disorders, and she received training in the feminist, multicultural approach to counseling young girls and women. Her research has been published in the highly respected peer-reviewed journals of Child Abuse and Neglect and Child Maltreatment.
