Jack Opgenorth was born and raised in Wisconsin, where he received a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin in 1979.  After working in juvenile corrections for several years in Milwaukee, he moved to Alaska to pursue his passion for the ocean and wilderness.  In addition to commercial fishing there, Jack worked with at-risk youths on trail-building crews for the U.S. Forest Service.
After getting married and having his first child, Jack took a position as a program manager and therapist at Islands Counseling Services in Sitka, Alaska, where he worked for 8 years until his family’s move to southern Oregon in 2000.
Jack has been with the Child and Family Psychiatric Center since 2006, in addition to being a part-time  psychology instructor at Rogue Community College since 2000.
Jack is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in treatment of adolescent and family issues.  He incorporates Mindfulness and Dialectic Behavior Therapy into much of his work and has had a wide range of experience with many other treatment modalities and populations.  Jack welcomes adult clients, as well.

Jack has been married to his wife Mary for 22 years, with 2 sons, Lucas and Elias, both in college.  His personal interests involve anything outdoors, particularly hiking, biking, camping, fishing and skiing.  Plants and pets are his home hobbies. He’s been an active volunteer in many youth sports organizations in his home community of Ashland.
