JULIE NEWMAN, PMHNP
is a doctorate trained psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
(PMHNP) with previous experience as a teacher and pediatric nurse.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Julie’s work with young people
began as a wilderness guide for teens. After an initial bachelor’s
degree in Chemistry at Pomona College, Julie came to the Rogue Valley
for a teaching position at St. Mary’s School (1999-2004, middle and
high school math/science). Ongoing interests in brain chemistry
and pediatric/adolescent mental health led Julie to a second
bachelor’s degree in nursing, pediatric work as a registered nurse
(RN) at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, additional RN work
within adult inpatient psychiatry, and eventually a Doctor in Nursing
Practice (DNP) degree from Rush University. As part of her
DNP-PMHNP graduate work, Julie trained directly with David Callanan
and Devin Smith at CFPC, with particular emphasis on kids and
adolescents. Her graduate project- a staff training intervention
within inpatient adult psychiatry- was recently published in the Journal
of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services.
family loves spending time outdoors in the Rogue Valley, biking,
rafting, skiing, hiking, and camping throughout this beautiful
region. When not exploring new spots in the Pacific Northwest,
they often visit extended family in Minnesota and Maine. Julie is
excited to join the CFPC team with an emphasis on assessment,
diagnosis, medication management, counseling, and patient-centered
health promotion for young people ages 5-21.
