Jake is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Doctoral-Level Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. He is also a Rogue Valley native. Previously, he had a wide assortment of roles, including preschool teacher, wildland firefighter, clinical director of a school-based substance abuse counseling program, juvenile work crew supervisor, ABA therapist and supervisor, statistics consultant, and fishing guide in Alaska, Hawaii, and Oregon. Jake also volunteered for over a decade with the Committed Partners for Youth mentoring program, Northwest Steelheaders, and Special Olympics, and in 2011, he was selected to coach the U.S. Special Olympics swimming team at the Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece.

Jake earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, graduating from the University of Oregon with departmental honors. He earned a Master of Science in Special Education from the University or Oregon. He earned a Doctorate (PhD) in School Psychology from the University of Oregon. He completed his training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from the University of Oregon with Drs. Wendy Machalicek and Tiffany Kodak. He completed a Predoctoral internship in Behavioral Pediatrics in Integrated Care from the Munroe-Meyer Institute at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he finalized his national certification in school psychology. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Department of Pediatric Psychology at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center (CDRC) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
After receiving his PhD, Jake completed a 12-month postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at OHSU where he provided behavioral health services to children and their families in the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center. Jake also responded to inpatient behavioral health consultation requests in all Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH) pediatric specialty clinics, the pediatric intensive care unit, and pediatric emergency department. Jake also worked with children and families across a number of CDRC and DCH clinics, including the multidisciplinary autism diagnostic clinic, behavioral health screening clinic for neuro-oncology, and the LEND fellowship program multidisciplinary diagnostic clinic.
Jake is especially interested in working with children and families who are at disproportionate risk for poor developmental outcomes; especially families who are economically disadvantaged and in rural communities of Oregon. Jake is highly motivated to serve children and families with complex psychosocial profiles and limited access to care. As a result, Jake is motivated and able to deliver services across the state of Oregon through telehealth (using Zoom -- like Skype or FaceTime). Jake is also highly interested in applied clinical research, with experience using both single case and group designs. His research experience spans a number of focal areas, including ADHD diagnostics, college student marijuana use, parent training program effectiveness, efficiency and effectiveness in treatments for autism, consultation models for training parents and paraprofessionals, and program evaluation for mentoring and other programs. Jake is interested in advancing the field of psychology in the areas of applied behavior analysis, early intervention, assessment and intervention efficiency, fidelity of implementation, behavioral parent training, family functioning, school consultation, chronic health condition management, mentoring at-risk youth, substance abuse prevention in youth, and resiliency.

Outpatient Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services include, but are not limited to, behavioral parent training, functional communication training (FCT), social skills training, and individualized treatments to address common concerns such as noncompliance, toileting, feeding, disruptive behavior, aggression, self-injury, and pica.
Behavioral management of chronic health conditions (e.g., type 1 diabetes, CF, chronic pain, etc).
Family therapy (e.g., Family Check Up) services include, but are not limited to, addressing communication, abuse history in the family, child non-compliance/deviancy/risk behavior, substance use/abuse in the family, and setting and maintaining expectations and rules.

Jake and his wife, Elise, were born and raised in the Rogue Valley and consider the Rogue River their home base. When not working or volunteering, you can find Jake guiding fishing trips for steelhead, archery hunting, backpacking into remote areas of Oregon, or training his dog to sniff out shed deer and elk antlers.
