Julie is a doctorate trained psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) with previous experience as a high school teacher and pediatric nurse. As part of her DNP-PMHNP graduate work, Julie trained directly with Dr. David Callanan at CFPC, with particular emphasis on children and adolescents. Julie has mentored numerous NP and BSN students pursuing practicum experiences in pediatric mental health and has volunteered with Rogue Valley Mentoring.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Julie’s work with young people began as a wilderness education instructor, working with teens. After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at Pomona College, Julie moved to the Rogue Valley to teach Math and Science at St. Mary's School. Ongoing interests in brain chemistry and pediatric/adolescent mental health led Julie return to school, earning a BSN in Nursing and working in the Pediatric and, later, in the Behavioral Health units at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, before returning to school to earn her Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Rush University.
Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College, in Claremont, California, majoring in Chemistry and graduating Cum Laude. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University, in Ashland, Oregon, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned the Associate Dean's Award. Julie earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Rush University, in Chicago, Illinois, as a Pediatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. There, she was awarded the Associate Dean's Award and the Commitment to Excellence Award.
Julie's graduate project--a staff training intervention within inpatient adult psychiatry-- was published in the Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services.
